Profiles

Using an Advanced Rule the Sender of the e-mail has control of the Inbound facilties at the destination. In some cases, given that Inbound Rules allow applications (including e-mail file attachments) to be launched automatically, this level of system access requires restrictions.

Advanced Rule Profiles allow you to control what actions may be performed on your system by other MailRules users.

Click the Profiles button on the Settings screen to view your Advanced Rule Profiles. The Advanced Rule Profiles screen allows you to create new profiles, and to edit & delete existing profiles.

Profiles 1

Option

Description

Profile

Each Profile requires a unique name that should be meaningful. To provide a meaningful name for a profile, consider by whom the profile will be used or what features it allows access to.

New Profile

The New Profile button creates a blank profile. You must specify a Profile Name and Password before you can save the changes.

Delete

Deletes the current Profile. Note that if you are using Advanced Rules, you must have at least one Profile.

Password

In order for other MailRules users to send you Advanced Rules, you must inform them of this password which they will enter against your name in their MailRules Address Book.

Notification

When you receive an Advanced Rule, you can request an on-screen notification:

  • All Advanced Rules Processed: You will be advised each time an Advanced Rule is received and run on your system.
  • Only when requested by Sender: You will be advised only your notification has been explicitly requested by the Sender.
  • Don't Inform me any time: You will receive no notification at all.

AutoHide

If this option is selected, the Notification Window (Notification) will be automatically hidden after 30 seconds. If the option is not selected, the Notification Window will stay on screen until closed by mouse.

Deliver to Aliases only

You can specify that Advanced Rules can only deliver files to your local Aliases. Once selected, the Sender can by default deliver files to any of your local Aliases, however, you can restrict the Aliases using the ".." button.

Replace Files

If selected, this allows the Sender to replace files on your system that already exist. Without this set, Senders must be using the "Never" setting of the Replace Files option.

Clear Redundant Files

If selected, this allows the Sender to delete files from your system that they have previously transmitted to you but no longer exist in their own collection.

Virtual Folder

If selected, this allows the Sender to use a folder on your system as a Virtual Folder.

Run Outbound Rules

If selected, this allows the Sender to activate an Outbound Rule from your library. Once selected, the Sender can by default transmit any the Outbound Rules in your library, however, you can restrict which Outbound Rules may be transmitted by using the ".." button.

Run Applications

If selected, this allows the Sender to activate an application on your system. Once selected, the Sender can by default launch any application on your system (provided that a full path to the executable file is provided) however, you can provide a list of Applications that may be launched by using the ".." button. We recommend that Applications are controlled in this manner. An added advantage of using this facility is that once you have specified an application that may be run (for example, "c:\program files\myApps\import.exe" the Sender need only enter the name of the actual executable program in the Where tab of the Outbound Rule they use (for example, "import.exe").

Launch Attachments

If you grant Senders the right to launch applications, you may still wish to prevent them from directly launching a file they have transmitted to you. By selecting this option, you grant Senders the right to launch an attachment that they have transmitted to you.

Attachments as Parameters

If you grant Senders the right to launch applications, you may still wish to restrict their ability to use an attachment they have transmitted to you as a parameter of that application. By selecting this option, you grant Senders the right to use an attachment they have transmitted to you as a parameter to an external application.
