Aliases

Aliases are names that you assign to directory or folder locations.

We strongly recommend the use of Aliases. There are several benefits to using Aliases, here are some examples:

The physical location of an Alias can be your local drives or network locations. Aliases are designed to aid you with the management of the various folders that you will be using to receive or send messages and attachments. For example, in the case of a network folder you could assign an Alias of "Sales" instead of having to specify \\servername\volume\folder\sub.

With proper planning your library of Aliases will streamline the building of new rules and enhance the efficiency of your deployment of MailRules.

In addition to the Aliases that you define, there are three other Aliases available: MY DOCUMENTS/PERSONAL, DESKTOP and MAILRULES.

Alias

Description

MY DOCUMENTS/PERSONAL

The MY DOCUMENTS/PERSONAL Alias refers to the area defined by Windows as My Documents (on Windows 95, 98 and 2000 systems) or Personal (on Windows NT systems).

DESKTOP

The Windows desktop - the background screen area.

You can transmit or receive directly to the Desktop, but we strongly recommend the use of subfolders when transmitting, or you may clutter-up a recipients desktop and make it difficult for them to work. Obviously you are completely at liberty to make your own desktop as messy as you like.

MAILRULES

An Alias called MailRules is provided by default on all MailRules installations and is initially set to a subfolder of the Working Folder called "MRDEFAULT". You can, of course, select any folder for this Alias.

Access Aliases from the Tools option on the MailRules main menu.
